Dues & Membership

Dues

The amount clubs charge for dues ranges from $15 to $135 (upper tier) per year, but the most successful approach is a tiered membership.  In the tiered structure, you may want to offer inducements at different levels, but it is not necessary.  A sample tiered structure is $25 (Green), $50 (Blue), and $100 (Gold), this structure typically results with 50% choosing $25 and the rest split evenly between $50 and $100.  Some clubs offer discounts to seniors and/or new graduates.

It has been found that it is best to send out the annual membership form in January with a brief outline of the club's annual activities for the year.  Consider including an addressed return envelope with the form to increase response.

Membership

The average club will have as dues paying members about 20% of the alumni in their area. The most successful clubs only attract about 50% of the alumni potential. The most successful recruiting tool is using students in a phone tree format during the summer students usually will get 25% of the alumni they call to become dues paying members.

Friends of the club can be recruited best by personal contact with an alumnus and most friends are amazed that they can join the local clubs. If your club has game watches, articles in the local parish bulletins and local sports pages are good means for contacting this group.
