The Notre Dame Alumni Association is proud to recognize exemplary qualities in Notre Dame students who epitomize the fine character of Mike Russo. Mike died from injuries sustained in a traffic accident in May 1990, on the evening he returned home to St. Louis after completing his freshman year at Notre Dame. The 2009 Mike Russo Award winner is:
Adeline Dozois '11
With this award, Adeline Dozois ’11 is honored for her exemplary leadership and academic achievements, as well as her admirable dedication to spirituality and service at Notre Dame. A native of Bradenton, Fla., Adeline graduated first in her high school class and currently holds a GPA of 3.87.
A majority of Adeline’s service efforts have been directed to her work in the Summer Service Learning Program (SSLP) and the Homeless Family Center in Vero Beach, Fla. Adeline spent eight weeks at the center in the summer of 2008, where she led activities for children and provided service in administration and outreach.
In addition to her work in Vero Beach, Adeline spent her 2008 fall break participating in a medical mission trip to Ecuador. While in Ecuador, Adeline assisted physicians and interviewed patients in the underserved neighborhoods in Quito, the capital city. Adeline continues to demonstrate a commitment to medical service today by volunteering at Sr. Maura Brannick Health Center, a clinic that offers free healthcare to the South Bend community.
In an effort to strengthen her own spirituality and enrich the spirituality of others, Adeline has participated in several retreats through Notre Dame Campus Ministry, where she serves as a leader for the freshman retreats. Adeline is a spirituality commissioner for Badin Hall, and she regularly serves as a lector and Eucharistic minister for Badin Mass.
Along with her devotion to service, Adeline has demonstrated admirable leadership qualities during her time at Notre Dame. She serves as treasurer of Le Cercle Francais, Notre Dame’s French club. She also is a leader in her residence hall as a member of Service and Academic Commissions.
Adeline has demonstrated a commitment to extracurricular and service activities since her arrival at Notre Dame in 2007. She showed an affinity for athletics during her first year when she joined the women’s water polo team. In November 2008, Adeline completed the Indianapolis City Marathon.
Adeline is pursuing a major in biological sciences and a minor in French. She plans to attend medical school and work in international public health after she graduates.
