Coach Weis to Visit With Award-Winning ND Clubs

Head Football Coach Charlie Weis is giving ND clubs even more incentive to win the Outstanding Club Award and the Lennon Award. Winning clubs will be added to his list of speaking engagements each year.

Recent NCAA rule changes have limited the time college coaches can spend recruiting. This change has created more free time in Weis’ spring schedule-- time, he says, he would like to spend interacting with ND clubs. In fact, as soon as the changes were announced, Coach Weis met with Chuck Lennon, executive director of the ND Alumni Association to find out how he could get involved.

Coach Weis will begin his visits with the 2006 Outstanding Club Award and Lennon Award winners.

The Outstanding Club Award recognizes one club in each size classification that has excelled above all others in support of the University’s mission and in service to its local constituents. The designation is made by the Alumni Board of Directors' Alumni Clubs Committee during Alumni Senate, the annual conference for club and class leaders. The Lennon Award recognizes clubs whose level of excellent performance in all areas of club activity over a period of years is such that the club would tend to dominate the “Outstanding Club Award.”

Coach Weis will kick off his club visits at the Notre Dame Club of Gettysburg, PA, with a luncheon on April 23. The rest of the schedule is as follows:

April 23           Dinner at the ND Club of Southeast Virginia, Virginia Beach

April 24           Lunch at the ND Club of North Central Florida, Ocala

April 24           Dinner at the ND Club of Memphis, TN

In addition, Coach Weis will continue to speak at the annual Rockne Dinner, hosted by the ND Club of Chicago. This event will take place on April 4.

Next spring, Coach Weis will plan engagements for the 2007 Outstanding Club Award and Lennon Award winners, which will be announced this April.
