Notre Dame’s Research to Focus on “Doing Good”
“This college will be one of the most powerful means for doing good.” That was the vision Rev. Edward Sorin, C.S.C. had for Notre Dame nearly 200 years ago, and it’s the driving force behind the University’s accelerated research activity. In fact, Notre Dame announced that it has committed $80 million in internal financial resources to support two phases of integrated research initiatives—initiatives that perhaps will save lives, influence policy and lift barriers to human development.
“Excellence in research is a central goal at Notre Dame for many reasons, but most of all because it is through the scholarly and creative work of our faculty that the University is able to better serve society, which is our driving ambition,” said Notre Dame President Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C. [Full Story]

Eight clubs—one in each club size and one international—earned the Outstanding Club Award. They are:

• Milwaukee (club size A)
• Fort Wayne (club size B)
• North Florida (club size C)
• El Paso (club size D)
• Stuart, FL (club size E)
• Central Missouri (club size F)
• Tokyo (International)
Additionally, the Notre Dame Club of Hilton Head earned the prestigious Lennon Award, which goes to the one club whose excellent performance in all areas of club activity over a period of years is such that the club would tend to dominate the “Outstanding Club Award.”

Following a challenging season, The Shirt 2008 Committee focused on creating a message that conveys the strength and determination of the Notre Dame football team.
The front of the ND-blue shirt features the phrase “Wake up the Echoes: Notre Dame Football 2008.” Representing the future glory of the Fighting Irish, the image on the back of the shirt is that of a football player entering the stadium. The player is facing two National Championship banners (1977 and 1988—reminders of ND’s storied history), and his jersey bears the No. 12, which represents the future glory—and potential 12th National Championship—of Notre Dame football.
