This journey through Bavaria takes you to the charming towns of this lovely region, as well as a world-famous cultural event in the Oberammergau Passion Play. Begin in Rothenburg, a perfectly preserved, medieval walled village of half-timbered houses, cobbled lanes, and charming squares. Then, admire the peaceful countryside and picturesque towns along the Romantic Road. Continue to Oberstaufen and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Lake Konstanz. Journey to Ettal, your gateway to Oberammergau and the renowned Passion Play, performed by the townspeople once every 10 years. It is truly memorable to watch this event in person. Continue to Munich and visit Marktl and Freising—small towns that played pivotal roles in the life of Pope Benedict XVI. Saint Mary’s College will travel with Notre Dame on this departure.

Fr. David J. Scheidler, C.S.C
Father David Scheidler received his BA in history and theater from Notre Dame in 1987. He worked briefly as a buyer for Lord & Taylor in New York before entering Moreau Seminary for the Congregation of Holy Cross in 1988. In 1993, he received his MDiv in Theology. During his deacon year, and after ordination to the priesthood in 1994, he served at a parish in Arizona. He later worked in Student Affairs and Campus Ministry at Notre Dame for eight years. From 2003 to 2007, Father Scheidler served as the director of Campus Ministry at Notre Dame High School for Boys in Niles, Ill, where he also taugh religion for two years. He now works as associate rector for the parish ministry at St. Adalbert Parish on the west side of South Bend.
