Pennsylvania

University of Notre Dame collegiate license plates are a great way to show your Irish spirit and support the Alumni Association's many programs.

Eligibility

You must be a Pennsylvania resident to obtain the Notre Dame plate. However, you don't need to be an alumnus or alumna of Notre Dame.

Plate Fees

The specialty plate fee of $54.00 is a one-time fee only – and is in addition to the annual registration fee. A detailed breakdown of the specialty fee follows:

  •    $20.00 PennDOT application and processing fee
  •    $4.00 production cost of manufacturing plate
  •    $25.00 Notre Dame Alumni Association (used to support service and academic programming)
  •    $5.00 to the local Notre Dame Club’s scholarship fund

Application Procedure

The following outlines the new sales process for the ND plate:

  • Applicant completes the Application for Special Organization Registration Plate form (including current ND plate holders). Click here to download the application form. Forms will not be available at local license branches.
  • Write a check for $54.00 made payable to the University of Notre Dame.
  • Mail application form and check to: Notre Dame Alumni Association; Attn: Penn Plate Program; 100 Eck Center, Notre Dame, IN 46556
  • The applicant must pay the annual registration fee directly to PennDOT when it is due.  The registration expiration date on your current plate will be transferred to your new Notre Dame plate when issued.  So if your current plate expires in December, your new plate will also expire in December.  You must have a current plate (not expired) in order for PennDOT to issue the new Notre Dame plate.
  • PennDOT takes 4 - 6 weeks to process the plate orders. So it is recommended that people who are interested in obtaining the ND plate for the first time send in their application at least 8 weeks prior to their registration expiration date. Plates will be mailed directly to the applicant’s address.
  • Please note PennDOT does not allow personalized plates under the specialty plate program.

Transition for current Notre Dame plate holders:

If you are a current ND plate holder, you will be able to keep your original plate number. You will just need to reapply for a new style plate, completing the above outlined steps.  PennDOT will be sending a letter to each current Notre Dame plate holder when the new plate becomes available later this summer. This is a one-time option, meaning all number transfer requests must come in the Alumni Association’s first batch of applications from clubs. Deadline for receiving transfer requests will be September 30, 2008. After that, plates will be issued in sequence beginning where the old plate number configuration ended.
