Traveling with Medication?
If you are taking daily medication during your trip, it is important that you understand the guidelines for traveling with your medication. Airport security generally allows medication and medical supplies through carry-on security if it is clearly labeled. Expect that it will go
through a screening process, either visual or X-ray. To read a full description of the medical security screening process, go to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) website.
Check out TSA’s website for more info
Important Passport and Vaccination Information
U.S. citizens are now required to present a valid U.S. passport when traveling by plane between the United States and Canada. For information about applying for a U.S. passport, visit travel.state.gov or call 877-487-2778 to contact the National Passport Information Center.

More Helpful Travel Tips
You’re sure to encounter many artifacts and keepsakes on your trip that you will want to take home as a way to always remember your journey. Be sure to pack an extra duffle bag inside your suitcase to carry all of your treasures on the trip home. Just remember to place a luggage tag on the bag prior to your departure.
If traveling to a non-English speaking country, pay attention to the words and phrases that surround you as you make your way through the airport or down a crowded street. Signs in these high- traffic areas are often the best way to pick up a few key phrases that will reduce the stress of communicating on your trip.
Every American will agree that you haven’t truly experienced America until you’ve devoured a slice of apple pie or a ballpark hotdog. Remember that the same holds true around the world! Don’t be afraid to sample the local cuisine. Just a tiny taste of your destination’s delicacies will help immerse you in the culture.

Spotlight on a Host: Jim Bellis
Joining us on our journey through Alaska will be Notre Dame Associate Professor Jim Bellis. Professor Bellis has been at Notre Dame since 1970, joining its Department of Sociology and Anthropology as the first archaeologist. In 1972, he started the archaeological field school at the University with excavations in Indiana, Illinois and Michigan. By the summer of 2005, the Department of Anthropology had expanded the field programs, and now has six archaeologists conducting fieldwork in Indiana, California, Ireland and Sicily. Professor Bellis is a recipient of a Kaneb Award and the Father Sheedy Award for excellence in teaching. He also has a background in West African art and archaeology.
You will be amazed by Professor Bellis’ lectures on the technology, social structure, and ecology of the incredibly innovative Native Alaskans who came to the “New World” from Asia at the end of the last Ice Age. You also will learn about the fascinating Native Alaskans from the southernmost coastal area, the world’s wealthiest culture of wildfood consumers. The architectural and artistic creativity of these Alaskans and the complexity of their social class structure will astound you. Learn all of this and more with Professor Bellis on “Alaska on Princess.”
