Travel the World with Notre Dame

Spring 2009

Reasons to Travel Now

-  No one else is. Avoid crowds at many destinations simply because many people are not traveling.

-  Airlines are slashing their prices in the hopes of attracting more travelers.  Take advantage of it.

-  Stronger U.S. dollar: In countries such as England, the exchange rate has improved significantly.

Travel with Notre Dame… Anytime

-  The tour group is made of fellow travelers who all have a Notre Dame connection.

-  On the majority of our trips, a Notre Dame priest, professor, or administrator will accompany you to add a personal element you couldn’t get with other travel programs.

-  You’ll come home with more than when you left (and we’re not talking about souvenirs).  Many of our trips offer academic and spiritual elements that you won’t find on other trips. When a priest accompanies the group, he will offer daily Mass. When a faculty member hosts the group, he or she will give a minimum of two lectures per week.

Tips for Smooth Sailing

-  Because most cruises will take care of bringing your luggage to your stateroom, be sure to take a snapshot of your suitcases in case they are lost or mislabeled. Carry the photos on your person so you can give them to airline or cruise personnel to help identify your belongings.

-  Wash your hands frequently, carry hand sanitizer, and use a napkin to grasp ladles at the ship’s buffet. Better to be overly-careful than have a cruise ruined by getting sick.

-  Families with kids tend to take triple and quad cabins, so avoid booking a stateroom next to them if you worry about noise. Also try to stay away from the elevators, laundry rooms, or rooms directly above or below the casino, show lounge, or pool deck.

-  In case you end up buying more than you planned, or your dirty clothes just won’t fit back into your suitcase, bring along a collapsible duffle bag. You can carry it onto the plane on your return flight, or even check it with the rest of your luggage. Remember that most airlines charge high fees for overweight baggage, and often it is cheaper to redistribute your stuff and simply check an extra bag.

-  Before you head off to a beach or other excursion, consider packing a lunch. Food ashore may be expensive and finding a restaurant can take up time better spent relaxing or sight-seeing. Load up at the ship’s buffet or request room service, and pack it in a shopping bag or even a lunch container from home.
