Lecturer: Ian Kuijt
Ian Kuijt is an archaeologist and Associate Professor of Anthropology at the University of Notre Dame.  Born in Canada, Kuijt completed his undergraduate degree in History at the University of Lethbridge, his Masters in Archaeology at Simon Fraser University, and his PhD in Anthropology at Harvard University.  Kuijt specializes in the archaeology of the Near East, Ireland and Western North America.  Since 2006 he has directed the interdisciplinary Cultural Landscape of the Irish Coast project that seeks to understand social and cultural life along coastal Ireland.  Author or editor of four books, Kuijt is currently working on a new book exploring the emergence of social inequality and the origins of agriculture. He is the recipient of several teaching awards at Notre Dame, including the Kanab and Rev. Joyce C.S.C. Award for Excellence in Teaching. His research has been supported by the National Endowments for the Humanities, the National Science Foundation, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and the British Academy.  As part of his research Kuijt has traveled extensively through North America, Europe, the Near East, and Africa.
