Lecturer: Barbara Mangione ‘89 MA
Barbara Mangione ’89 MA taught Italian and Spanish in the Department of Romance Languages for 18 years, preparing students for study abroad. Recognized by the University of Notre Dame for excellence in undergraduate teaching in Italian and Spanish, she was also awarded the prestigious CILS (Certificate of Italian as a Second Language) by the Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs. Two years of living in the heart of old Rome and several return trips for study and travel in nearly every region of the peninsula have given her an eye for body language and an appreciation of cultural—and culinary—differences. She believes that anyone with a love of history, an eye for beauty, and a lively sense of humor will feel at home in Italy and will want to return again and again.
