Father Leonard Banas taught classical languages at Notre Dame for almost 40 years, until retirement 12 years ago. He served as religious superior of the Holy Cross Community on campus and also as assistant chair of the Department of Modern and Classical Languages for a number of years. Father Banas currently works part-time as an advisor in the Office of Undergraduate Studies in the College of Arts and Letters. He assists regularly on weekends at a number of parishes in the area and also in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. Father Banas was a member of the ND Alumni Travel Advisory Committee and has traveled extensively with Notre Dame Alumni groups.
